X (Twitter)

An X scheduler with a live count and no fine print

Posts and entire threads, scheduled with a character count against X’s real limit — and the one X-specific cost every tool has, stated on the page instead of discovered on the invoice.

X is the last major network with a genuinely tiny limit: 280 characters, hard, refused at 281. Everything about scheduling for X flows from that — and from one more thing the industry prefers not to mention.

X charges tools for API usage in a way no other network does. Every tool that posts to X pays per use; the difference is whether they tell you. Our numbers are below, in public, the same ones the pricing page shows.

The rest is mechanics: what fits in a post, what breaks a thread, and the media rules the API enforces.

What you can schedule on X

Posts, media posts and threads — scheduled like any other post, published in order.

Post

280 characters, hard limit — the API refuses longer. X Premium raises the ceiling to 25,000, and the composer knows both numbers.

Media post

Up to 4 images (JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF — X still takes GIFs) or one video up to 512 MB and 140 seconds. Photos and video never share a post.

Thread

A chain of posts published in order as replies to each other, scheduled as one item. The 280 count applies per post in the chain, and the composer counts each one.

The four things that make an X post fail

Checked in the composer before anything is queued.

  1. Post number 281 characters long

The 280 limit is enforced by the API, not softly truncated. A caption written for Instagram’s 2,200 dies here — the most predictable cross-posting failure there is.

In Ignix: A live count per network while you type, against 280 — or against 25,000 when the account is Premium. Each post of a thread is counted on its own.

  2. Video over 140 seconds or 512 MB

Those are the API caps for standard accounts. The same file that TikTok takes at ten minutes is refused here at two minutes twenty-one.

In Ignix: Duration and size are checked on upload, per network, before the post can be queued.

  3. A photo and a video in the same post

X refuses mixed media. Reusing an Instagram carousel that mixes clips and photos is how this usually happens.

In Ignix: The composer flags the mix for the X target as soon as it appears.

  4. The invisible per-use bill

X charges for API usage per action, and most tools either eat the cost quietly at low limits or bury it in a higher tier. Posts that contain a link are the expensive ones.

In Ignix: Stated in public: posts with a link are capped at 40 a month per account under fair use, and posts without a link, at no extra charge, are unlimited. The same line is on the pricing page — you should not learn a limit from an invoice.

Threads, scheduled as one thing

A thread is written as one item — each post in the chain with its own count — and published in order automatically. No copy-pasting replies at the scheduled minute.

It is the X-native format for anything longer than 280, and the composer treats it as a first-class citizen rather than a workaround.

Mentions and replies land in the inbox

Comments and DMs from X arrive in the same unified inbox as every other network, answered from one box, with saved replies and assignment when a team shares the job.

Honest about what X costs

X is the only network that charges tools per use, and it is why every X integration you have ever seen has some limit somewhere. Ours: posts containing a link are capped at 40 per month per account; posts without a link, DMs and the inbox are unlimited at no extra charge.

We would rather publish the number than have you find it. If your workflow is link-heavy beyond that, talk to us before you subscribe, not after.

On the official API, with no password

You authorise Ignix from X’s own site through the official API. No password stored, no token in our database, and you can revoke access from X itself at any time.

Questions people ask

Can I schedule a whole thread on X?

Yes — written as one item, each post counted against 280 on its own, published in order as replies to each other at the scheduled time.

Does the composer know about X Premium’s longer posts?

Yes. The standard hard limit is 280 characters; X Premium raises it to 25,000, and the count applies the ceiling that matches the account.

What media does X accept?

Up to 4 images per post — JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF — or one video up to 512 MB and 140 seconds, in mp4 or mov. Photos and video cannot share a post, and the composer flags the mix before queueing.

Is there really a limit on posts with links?

Yes, and we publish it: 40 link-carrying posts per month per account, because X charges tools per use and link posts are the expensive call. Posts without a link are unlimited, as are DMs and the inbox. Every X tool has a limit like this somewhere; the difference is whether it is on the pricing page or on the invoice.

Do X replies and DMs land in the same inbox as other networks?

Yes — comments and DMs from X sit in the unified inbox next to Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and the rest, answered from the same box.
