Instagram comment-to-DM
Instagram comment-to-DM automation that sends the link before they scroll on
Someone comments “LINK”, Ignix replies in the thread and sends the DM with the link as a button — in seconds, on every comment, on the official Instagram API.

Ignix is for you if…
Not a feature list — the people it was built for. If three of these sound like you, you will feel at home.
- You post the reel, people comment “link?”, and you paste the same DM for the rest of the afternoon.
- You want “comment GUIDE” to work while you are not looking.
- You want the follow first, then the link — and Instagram to check it for you.
- You have used ManyChat and liked the automation, not the invoice.
- You want the reel, the comment and the booking in the same tool.
Comment-to-DM is the smallest automation with the biggest effect: a word under your post becomes a private message with what the person asked for. It works because it changes the ask — “comment GUIDE” gets far more people to act than “link in bio” — and every comment lifts the post for everyone else.
The mechanics are Meta’s: a private reply to a comment, one per comment, within seven days, text and up to three buttons. Everything on this page is built on that rule, including the parts that make it a conversation instead of a vending machine.
If you have done this in ManyChat, you will recognise every piece. The difference is the bill: Ignix does not count contacts.
The comment-to-DM everyone starts with, and the four nodes that turn it into something worth building. These are the real node names — you will find them under these names in the builder.
comment
Someone comments your keyword on a post
comment_reply
A public reply goes out — three versions, rotating, so it does not read like a bot
follower
Checks whether they follow you, and asks first if they do not
button_message
The DM lands, with the link as a button
delay
Wait a day
condition
Did they open it?
↳ no

One nudge, then stop
↳ yes
handoff
The bot goes quiet and it lands in your inbox
Thirty node types in total, including A/B splits, tags, custom fields and an AI agent that answers in your voice. You draw this one from a template in about five minutes.
Set it up in three steps
From the template to the first DM in ten minutes.
- 01
Choose the post
A specific published post, all your posts, or the next one you publish — Ignix attaches the flow when it goes live, so you can schedule the reel and the automation together.
- 02
Choose the trigger word
One keyword or several — “LINK”, “GUIDE”, “PRICE” — or every comment on that post. Case does not matter, and neither do the words around it.
- 03
Write the reply and the DM
A public reply in the thread (“sent you a DM 💬”, with variations so it never repeats), then the DM: text, buttons, and what to say if they do not follow you yet.
What the DM can do
The first reply is what Instagram allows; the rest of the conversation is whatever you build.
Link as a button
The link goes out as a tappable button, not a pasted URL — and it is the right link for that post, because each post can have its own flow.
Follow first, then the link
Instagram tells Ignix whether the commenter follows you. Ask for the follow, check it when they reply, and send the link only then.
Public reply with variations
The thread reply is visible to everyone. Write several versions and Ignix rotates them, or let AI write fifteen with the same meaning.
Files after the first reply
PDFs, spreadsheets and ZIPs up to 200 MB go out as a link button once the person answers — Meta only allows text and buttons in the first message.
Questions and tags
Ask for an email before the file, save it on the contact, tag them by post. Your list grows from the comments.
Next-post automations
Set the flow before publishing: it waits for the real publication and attaches itself. Drafts and scheduled posts do not claim it.
“Comment to DM has become one of our favorite features. We can turn a simple comment into an actual conversation without our team having to manually follow up with every person.”
Instagram’s rules for comment-to-DM
Meta sets these; Ignix enforces them in the builder so you never promise a DM Instagram will not send.
- One reply per comment, within 7 days
- A comment gets one private reply, and only if it is less than seven days old. Comments Instagram syncs from before you connected are outside the window.
- Text and three buttons first
- The private reply carries text and up to three buttons — no images, no files. Those go out in the next message, once the person has written back.
- Buttons need a follower
- Instagram delivers the buttons only to people who follow you; non-followers get the text. Hence the follow-first flow.
- Page comments do not qualify
- A comment left by another Page or business account cannot receive a private reply. The engine skips it instead of failing.
- Restricted Pages pause
- If Meta temporarily restricts a Page’s messaging, Ignix pauses that account’s flows until the restriction ends rather than hammering the API.
- Professional account, official API
- Business or creator account linked to a Facebook Page, authorised from Instagram. No password, no browser extension.
Comment-to-DM without the contact meter
The tools that made comment-to-DM famous bill per active contact: 2,500 for $39, 25,000 for $199, and cents per extra person above that. A comment-to-DM that works is a comment-to-DM that grows your bill.
Ignix is $19 a month for one account with 1,000 automated replies, and from $39 contacts and messages are unlimited — because what costs us money is the connected account, not the people who comment. Their prices were checked on their pricing page on 20 September 2026, monthly billing.
The reel, the comment and the booking, in one tool
The reel was scheduled from Ignix. The comment triggered the DM. The DM asked a question and offered three free slots as buttons. The booking is in Google Calendar and the person is in your contacts with their answer. Nothing was copied between tools, because there is one tool.
On every plan, from $19
Comment-to-DM is included on all four plans. The $19 plan covers one account and 1,000 automated replies a month — enough for most creators starting out. From $39: three accounts, unlimited contacts and messages, appointment booking in the DM and AI content. Cancel in two clicks, no contract.
Questions people ask
Does comment-to-DM work on Reels and Stories?
On Reels and feed posts, yes — any comment on a published post can trigger it. Stories do not have comments; for those, the story-reply trigger starts a flow when someone replies to or reacts to your story.
Can it reply to every comment, not just keywords?
Yes. Choose “any comment” on a post and every commenter gets the DM. Keywords are for when the same post should give different things to different words.
What if the person does not follow me?
Instagram delivers the buttons only to followers, so Ignix can ask them to follow first and send the link when they reply. You decide whether non-followers get the link anyway as plain text.
Can I use it on old posts?
Yes, on any published post — comments left from now on trigger it. Comments older than seven days are outside Instagram’s private-reply window.
How is this different from ManyChat?
The automation is the same kind — comment, private reply, buttons, follow check. The differences: Ignix does not count contacts, includes the scheduler that publishes the post and the inbox where the thread lives, and books appointments inside the DM.
Will Instagram ban me for it?
Comment-to-DM through Meta’s official API is exactly what the API exists for. What gets accounts restricted is automation from a logged-in browser, bought engagement or spam. Ignix uses only official permissions and paces sends within Instagram’s limits.
